Getting started

Create a Shopify key

Create a Shopify Dev Dashboard app and use its client ID and secret to connect your store to HighCohesion.

When to use this

Use this guide to connect a Shopify store to HighCohesion (HC). You create an app for your store in the Shopify Dev Dashboard, store its credentials as a key in the Control Panel, then install the app on your store. HC uses the key to read from and write to your store.

For how keys work in general, see Providing and managing system credentials.

Before you start

  • A Shopify account with access to the Dev Dashboard at dev.shopify.com.

  • Your store's myshopify.com address, for example your-store.myshopify.com.

  • Access to the Keys page in the Control Panel.

  • The list of API scopes your integration needs. Your HC contact will confirm these.

Steps

Create the app in Shopify

  1. Log in to dev.shopify.com and click Create app, then choose to create it manually.

  2. Enter a name for the app. Copy the name: you will use the same name for the key in the Control Panel, so the two are easy to match later.

  3. Click Create app, then click Release.

  4. Open the app's Settings page and copy the Client ID and Client secret.

Create the key in the Control Panel

  1. In the Control Panel, go to Keys and press Create Key.

  2. Select the Shopify system.

  3. Enter the app name you copied as the key's Title.

  4. Enter your store address in the Store field, for example your-store.myshopify.com.

  5. Paste the Client ID and Client secret from Shopify.

  6. Press Save.

  7. Copy the key ID. It is the last part of the key page's address, after /resources/keys/.

Configure the app version in Shopify

  1. Back in dev.shopify.com, open the app, go to Versions and click Create a new version.

  2. Select the API scopes your HC contact gave you.

  3. In App URL, enter https://control.highcohesion.com/shopify/redirect/<key ID>, replacing <key ID> with the ID you copied.

  4. In Allowed redirection URLs, enter the same URL: https://control.highcohesion.com/shopify/redirect/<key ID>.

  5. Click Create version.

Install the app on your store

  1. Go to the app's Overview page and click Distribution.

  2. Choose Custom distribution, enter your store's name and click Generate link.

  3. Open the link and click Install app.

What you should see

The app appears as installed in your Shopify admin, and the key appears in the Control Panel Keys list under the app's name. Sensitive values are hidden after saving.

If it did not work

The install fails or Shopify reports a redirect error. Check the App URL and redirection URL. Both must start with https://control.highcohesion.com/, without your organisation's name in front, and end with the exact key ID.

You are not sure which scopes to select. Ask your HC contact before creating the version. Missing scopes cause the integration to fail when it tries to read or write that data.

You copied the wrong key ID. Open the key in the Control Panel again and copy the last part of its address, then create a new app version with the corrected URLs.
