Promoting a stream from test to live
Copy a stream you have tested into your live organisation, pick its live keys and queue, and check it before switching it on.
When to use this
Use this guide when you have built or changed a stream in your test organisation, tested it, and want the same stream in your live organisation. Sync to LIVE copies the stream, with its source, destination and transformation, into live. A new stream arrives in live switched off, and nothing changes in test.
As with a sync from live to test, the Control Panel first builds a plan showing what it will create or update in live and what it needs from you. Nothing is copied until you review the plan and apply it.
Before you start
Test the stream in your test organisation first. If you need a copy of a live stream to test against, see Syncing a live stream to your test organisation.
Keys (the saved credentials a stream uses to connect to a system) are never copied. The live stream uses the keys your live organisation already has, and you pick which one in the plan.
Steps
Plan the sync
Switch to TEST, go to Streams and open the stream you want to promote.
Click the β¦ menu at the top right of the stream page and choose Sync to LIVE.
Read the summary in the window and click Plan sync. Nothing changes yet, and the sync page opens with the plan. To come back to it later, go to Streams > Live/Test Syncs.
Review the plan
Check the Status. Waiting on you means there are decisions to make before you can apply.
Read the Plan table. Each row is something the stream depends on, with what it uses in test, what it will use in live, and a status:
Will create: copied into live as new, usually the transformation.
To decide: you need to choose what to use in live. For a key, the plan proposes a match when it can. When several live keys could fit, it tells you how many and leaves the choice to you.
Make the decisions
Click Choose keys, queues and changes.
For each key, pick the live key the stream should use. Check proposed keys too: a test stream usually points at sandbox systems, and the live stream needs your production ones.
Under Queue for the new stream, pick the queue it will run on in live.
Click Save and plan again. The status changes to Ready to apply and every row shows Linked, Confirmed or Will create.
Apply the plan
Optional: scroll to Side by Side to compare every field between test and live. Use Differences only to hide fields that match.
Click Apply plan, read the confirmation and click Apply.
What you should see
A confirmation such as Sync applied: 4 created, 0 updated, 5 pairs recorded. The new stream is inactive. The sync's status changes to Applied.
Switch to LIVE and go to Streams. The stream is in the list and its Last synced with test column shows when the sync was applied. Open it and check, before you switch it on:
the source and destination use your production keys, not sandbox ones,
the settings the Follow-Ups section on the sync page asked you to check, such as store URLs, file paths and filters,
the stream is not active yet, so nothing runs until you are ready.
If the stream is already in live
When the stream already has a counterpart in live, the plan marks it as an update and lists the exact changes. Applying the plan changes only those fields. It never switches a stream on or off, and it never changes schedules, keys, queues or webhooks. If the live stream is active, the changes take effect on its next run.
If it did not work
Apply plan is greyed out. There is still a decision outstanding. Check the status line above the plan, resolve each row marked To decide, then click Plan again.
The key you need is not in the list. Create it in your live organisation under Keys, then click Plan again on the sync page to pick it up.
The plan is refused when you apply it. Something it depends on changed after the plan was made. Click Plan again, review the new plan and apply it.
