Reviewing account activity in Actions

Use the Actions page to see what changed in your account, who changed it and when.

When to use this

Use this guide when you need to know what changed in your account, who changed it and when. A stream that behaves differently from last week, an alert that stopped arriving, a user who no longer has access: the Actions page records the change behind it.

Actions covers changes to configuration and the manual operations people run in the Control Panel. It does not cover the data moving through your integrations. For that, see Reading the dashboard.

Before you start

  • You need a Control Panel account. Actions sits under Settings in the left-hand menu.

  • It helps to know roughly when the change happened, or who made it. The list is ordered newest first and can run back years.

Steps

Finding an action

  1. In the Control Panel, go to Settings > Actions in the left-hand menu.

  2. Click the filter icon above the table.

  3. Narrow the list using the filters you have: User filter for who made the change, Model filter for the type of record it was made to, Model ID filter and Batch ID filter for a specific record or batch, and Per page for how many rows to show at once.

  4. Read across the row: what was done, by whom, to what, and when.

Opening one action in full

  1. Click the eye icon at the end of the row to open the Action Details page.

  2. Read the Changes table: it lists each field the action set or amended, and the value it was given.

To check a row without leaving the list, click the menu at the end of the row and choose Preview. The same detail opens in a side panel, with an arrow to the full page.

What you should see

Each row of the table holds:

  • ID: the reference for that action. Quote it if you raise the change with HC.

  • Name: what was done. Create, Update and Delete for configuration changes, and Deploy, Manual Trigger and Replicate Event for operations someone ran.

  • Initiated by: the person who made the change. HC team members appear here too, so a change made by HC on your behalf is as visible as one of your own.

  • Target: the record that was changed, as its type and name, for example Stream: Sales Orders. Click it to open that record.

  • Status: how the action itself completed. A change that went through shows FINISHED.

  • Happened at: the date and time, with the time zone offset it was recorded in.

If it did not work

The target shows a reference and a long ID instead of a name. The record itself has been deleted, so there is no name left to show and nothing to open. The action still tells you who deleted it and when.

You cannot find the change you expected. Clear the filters and check the account name in the header: an organisation with a live and a test account keeps separate records for each. If the change still is not there, it was not made through the Control Panel.

You cannot see Actions in the menu. Contact HC: see How to get support.

How it works

The Model filter covers Job, Event, Entity, System, Dedicated Queue, Key, Source, Transformation, Destination, Stream, Lookup Table and User. Targets outside that list, such as alert configurations, appear in the table but are not filterable; find those by user or by date instead.

Actions is a record, not a control. You cannot undo a change from this page. To reverse a configuration change, make the opposite change in the Control Panel, or raise it with HC: see Requesting a mapping change.
