How to fix and resend a failed event

Resolve a failed event directly from the Control Panel and resubmit it for processing.

When to use this

Use this guide when an event has failed because of a missing or incorrect value that you can correct yourself. Typical examples are an invalid postcode or malformed characters in a field, such as text in a phone number field. Also use it when the failure was caused by a temporary problem, such as the destination system being briefly unavailable, and that problem has since cleared.

Do not use it if the cause is a transformation or mapping problem. Resending without fixing the root cause produces the same failure again; contact HC first. If you are not sure what caused the failure, start with I received an alert — what now?

Before you start

Steps

Correct the payload and resend

  1. Open the failed event's detail view.

  2. Click Replicate. A window opens showing the event's complete incoming payload.

  3. Find the field causing the error. The error message usually names it.

  4. Correct the value.

  5. Click Replicate Event. The corrected data is sent for processing.

  6. Return to the event list and refresh after a few seconds.

Resend without editing

If the failure was caused by a temporary problem that has now cleared, open the failed event, click Replicate and submit the payload unchanged.

Replicate a whole job

If an entire run failed, for example because the source system was unreachable or timed out, replicate the job rather than each event. Open the job, click Replicate, review the run's specification (or, for webhook jobs, the original webhook payload) in the popup, and submit. See The Jobs page for more on jobs.

What you should see

A new event appears in the list. Once it has processed, its status is Ok and it carries no error message. See Understanding event statuses for what the other statuses mean.

If it did not work

Same error as before. Check that you edited the right field. If the source data itself is the problem, rather than a value you can correct in the Control Panel, contact HC.

A different error. You may have uncovered a second problem. Read the new error message and repeat the steps, or contact HC if the cause is not clear.

When you contact HC, include the event ID and the full error text. See When to escalate to the HC team.
